BIPOC stands for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. BIPOC HR was named to convey the fact that this is not your typical HR consulting company. It is one that understands the persistent barriers that often affect marginalized groups in the workplace.
In my many years working at various companies, from small family-owned business to large, public Fortune 500 companies, I kept seeing how despite gains made in employment laws that protect not only BIPOC, but veterans, those with disabilities, and other groups there is still much of the business and HR world that is not set up in ways that are intuitive or accessible to those groups.
My goal for the individuals side of BIPOC HR is to help people improve their lives by getting better jobs, being able to ask for a raise or a promotion, and knowing their rights. Unfortunately, I have known many good, hard-working people who have stayed in jobs where they are not well paid and are unappreciated. What I learned was not that they were content to be in those situations, but rather felt trapped by how difficult finding another position could be. Things such as a lack of computer access, ability to create a professional resume, or having the time to fill out time-consuming applications. As someone who has plenty of loved ones and friends who have found themselves in similar situations, I decided to create BIPOC HR to help those types of people.
Being on the hiring side of things while working for various companies I saw how many people who were likely capable of learning the job were automatically screened out because they did not have a resume to upload. I also noticed a trend of relying on online applications systems (which companies are using for convenience and compliance reasons) that was keeping non-digital natives and others from being able to apply. Using these systems for positions that do not require computer skills hurts not just the candidates who cannot apply, it also limits the number of applicants an employer receives. That is why BIPOC HR also offers business consultation services. We aim to help businesses put processes in place that will allow them to reach a wider candidate pool and create more inclusive hiring practices.
Other business services we provide to help create advancement opportunities for BIPOC and other groups include: job-specific training checklists, job analysis, wage analysis, succession planning, and training and development programs.
